NGORONGORO CRATER

Depart from Arusha with picnic lunches and head for a tour of the Ngorongoro Crater. Descend 600 meters into the crater floor. The Ngorongoro Crater, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, contains the world’s largest intact volcanic caldera and is the only place where you can spot the BIG 5 in one day (if you are lucky). Other animals found here include: Zebras, Warthogs, Wildebeests, Hyenas, Jackals, Cheetahs, Elands, Gazelles and Hippos. Additionally, there is an abundant array of birdlife including: Pelicans, Flamingos, Crowned Cranes, Fire Finches and Kori Bustard Geese. In the late afternoon, after enjoying the crater tour, you will ascend the crater walls and drive back to Arusha for dinner and an overnight at your hotel.

Arusha National Park

8 am departure from Arusha city center to Arusha National Park. The 137 square kilometer park offers multiple terrains including open savannahs, Acacia Scrublands, Afromontane clouds, rain forests and Afro-Alpine vegetation similar to that of Mount Kilimanjaro. In addition, there are several alkaline lakes as well as the spectacular Ngurdoto Crater. The mammal species include: elephants, buffalo, various primates, giraffes and leopards. Hiking is allowed (if accompanied by an armed guard) and the climb up Mount Meru is superb, often giving the best available views of Mount Kilimanjaro. At 4556 meters, Mount Meru is the fifth highest mountain in Africa and is also situated in the heart of Arusha National Park. Lunch will be served at a picnic site in the park and the tour will end in Arusha city-center around 5 pm.

Tarangire zebra

Tarangire National Park

8 am departure from Arusha to Tarangire National Park. At 2600 square kilometers, Tarangire is far from being the largest of the Tanzanian parks, but offers an unrivaled landscape of open plains and thousands of baobabs trees. Approximately 120 km south of Arusha, Tarangire is best known for its tree climbing lions and its large herds of buffalo. This is one of Africa’s best kept secrets and should be on the itinerary of all lovers of wilderness and solitude. The game numbers are staggering: 30,000 zebras, 25,000 wildebeests, 5,000 buffalo, 3,000 elephants, 2,500 Maasai giraffes and over 1,000 fringe eared oryx. The various predators include lions, cheetahs and leopards. There are many birds as well including: ashy starlings, rufous-tailed weavers and black-collared lovebirds. Lunch is included during this tour and the day ends in Arusha around 5 pm.

ARUSHA TO MARANGU

Enjoy breakfast and then drive to Marangu village for walking tour of the waterfalls located at the foot of Mount Kilimanjaro. Then, tour the local coffee and banana plantations. The most interesting aspect of the trip is the tour of the Chagga caves which were used by indigenous Tanzanian tribes to protect themselves from Maasai warriors looking for food, water and cattle during dry season. In the afternoon, enjoy African cuisine in a local restaurant. In the evening, drive back to Arusha for dinner and an overnight.

MOUNT MERU WATERFALLS

After breakfast, your guide will arrive at your hotel and transport you to a walking safari of the Sapuk Waterfalls. The waterfalls are located under the slope of the second highest mountain in Tanzania, Mount Meru. This day trip tour will take you through banana and coffee plantations and will also give you the opportunity to experience the lifestyle of the local people who live on the mountain. Your experienced guide will be there every step of the way to provide details about the local culture. After enjoying the beautiful surroundings, your guide will then provide a lunch box for you before beginning your journey back to Arusha.

Enjoy breakfast and then drive to Lake Duluti for canoeing with your local guide where you will enjoy the beautiful landscape, vegetation and surroundings. Here you can bird watch while eating a picnic lunch. In the evening, drive to Boma Ng’ombe for dinner and an overnight.
