OVERVIEW

Pemba Island, said to have once been inhabited by a race of giants, is an untouched beauty that offers an undiluted experiences of island life in the Indian Ocean. The tiny number of visitors to Pemba every year means that the island has little in the way of tourist infrastructure – which for alternative travelers in the main attraction. To accommodate the growing number of tourists the island has developed a lot of accommodation facilities including the guesthouses, hotels and resorts. With many historical sites and the ruins that include a number of old mosques and tombs and the old town fort of Chake Chake it is a worthy place to visit for a couple of days. There is also Ngezi Forest, a beautiful untouched rainforest and home to the Pemba Flying Fox, a giant bat!
